Rockin’ rocket man Commander Chris Hadfield inspired a nation—and this costume—with his tweets and YouTube videos from the International Space Station.

What You’ll Need To Make It:

  • Adhesive
  • Glitter craft foam (various colours)
  • White painter coveralls with hood
  • Metallic blue spray paint
  • Canning jar lid
  • Hot-glue gun and glue
  • Large wood embroidery hoop
  • Silver craft paint
  • Brown felt
  • Electrical tape
  • Theatrical adhesive tape

How To Put It All Together:

1. Make mission patches using adhesive craft foam and attach.
2. Spray-paint jar lid blue; hot-glue to a piece of adhesive craft foam and affix to coveralls.
3. Coat embroidery hoop with silver paint.
4. Cut moustache from felt.
5. On the day: Dress child in coveralls. Place a strip of electrical tape from shoulders to waist, angling inward; use more tape to fit coveralls at waist, wrists and ankles (remove attached feet if wearing shoes). Place embroidery hoop over head and glue to hood. Affix moustache with theatrical adhesive tape.
