This easy DIY checkerboard is also perfect for travel—when you’re done playing, stash your pieces in a snack baggie, roll it up inside your cloth board and tie it with a string.

What You’ll Need:

  • Face cloth
  • Painter’s tape
  • Fabric Paint
  • Shells and stones

1. To make the board, begin with a face cloth (about 30 cm square) and use painter’s tape to mark off a grid (fortunately, it’s the perfect width).

2. Then, using fabric paint, fill in the alternating squares.

3. Now, on to the hunt for shells and stones for playing pieces!
