Pick of the Week: Breakfast with Play-Doh

Today for our pick of the week, we tested the new Play-Doh Flip ‘N Serve Breakfast Set ($20, Hasbro). We know, it was a dirty job but someone had to do it. The set does not come assembled, but the pieces snap together quickly to fast-track the fun. A set of plastic cutlery, including a knife, fork, spoon, spatula, plate and cup are easily stowed in a hide-away compartment. Four small containers of Play-Doh (brown, white, red and yellow) wait be molded into adorable pancakes, waffles, toast (with little pats of butter, if desired), eggs, bacon, and an assortment of fruit (we’re glad they included fruit) and pastries. And for the finishing touch, a smoothie maker that also doubles as a whipped cream dispenser!

The set is meant for ages 3 and up. The Play-Doh does contain wheat products, so children with wheat allergies should seek out alternative forms of Play-Doh at Simply Moms. Cleaning the set after use was a little tricky as there are a few nooks and crannies that are difficult to get at. The instructions suggest leaving the “doh” to dry for a few hours and then you can shake out the crumbly bits into the garbage before a second round of brunches goes out!

For kids who love creative play and making things with their hands, this set would be an excellent addition to any imaginary restaurant. Just make sure they know this play food is NOT edible.

The Play-Doh Flip & Serve Breakfast set is available at Toys R Us and major retailers across Canada.
