Things We Love: Mailatale Book Club For Kids

Our March package from Mailatale

We love books and we love surprises, especially ones that arrive in the mail, so we’re super excited about Mailatale, a brand-new Canadian mail-order book club just for kids.

For $28.95 per month, Mailatale sends a package containing two or three books chosen to match the subscriber’s age, interests and reading level, as well as the club’s monthly theme.

Packages typically contain two or three books, with a total retail value to match the subscription rate. Titles are handpicked to fit the subscriber, ranging from newborns to 10-year-olds.

Our package, chosen for a 3-year-old with a wide range of interests, contained two books that fit perfectly with this month’s “Be Yourself” theme: Julia Donaldson’s rowdy dino tale Tyrannosaurus Drip, and a hadrcover copy of Mary-Louise Gay’s Caramba, the scaredy cat who yearns to fly.

Both selections were perfect for the age and interests of our test kid. We also loved the little extras in the package, like the sweet bookplate stickers and the fun postcard from the Mailatale team that explained the theme of the month. Everything came nicely packaged, with blue tissue paper and an inspirational quote from poet Shel Silverstein.

We think this book club would be the perfect baby shower gift to help parents-to-be build a library for a newborn babe. It would also be an amazing surprise from family or friends from afar to share their love of a good story.
