One Movie, Two Perspectives: Confessions of a Shopaholic

Read the books? This one’s for you:

If you are expecting to go into the Confessions of a Shopaholic movie and see the entire contents of the first book, large and in charge on the big screen, this may be one to skip. But, if you love the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella and would be in heaven to see Rebecca Bloomwood fall in love with fashion, men and finance, then this is definitely a movie for you.

While the most crucial events of the first book remain in place (“Hi, I’m Rebecca Bloomwood and I’m a shopaholic”), the movie appears as though they have taken the first two books and squished them together. Basically, take the events of book number one and place them in the setting of book number two and you have Confessions of a Shopaholic the movie.

Overall, the movie was great. There was laughter and yes; I almost got a bit choked up at some parts. If you love the books go into the movie with the following outlook: Don’t expect the book. But, if you feel like going to see a really great movie with your girlfriends, this is definitely worthy of a ladies’ night away from the kids.

Haven’t read them? You’re not alone!

I know I’m not alone out there when I confess that I could not get into the Shopaholic book series. I couldn’t feel sorry for a character that overspends on clothing and is obsessed with buying new things because, to be frank, I’ve got my own shopping bills to fret over.

When I went to see Confessions of a Shopaholic, I had no idea what to expect. Of course, I’d seen the commercials and got a general idea of what the movie was about, but for the most part I passed it off early on as a girlie movie that I probably wouldn’t be able to stay awake through.

The movie, overall, was not what I expected, and I admit that I walked away laughing (and also thinking about going shopping myself).

As someone who hasn’t read the books, I found the plot of the movie easy to follow and the characters even easier to fall in love with.

For anyone that just feels like going to see something girlie with good fashion and a wide variety of amazing shoes, this is definitely a movie worth seeing.
