Eliminate Clutter (and Waste) with Shoes that Biodegrade

Yes, you read that right. The eco shoe company Simple Shoes has recently launched a new product called Bio D–an entire line of shoes that will biodegrade within 20 years.

Which, when you think about, is perfect. If you are still holding on to a pair of shoes after 20 years than they deserve to be put out of their misery.

So how does it work? Well, the rubber soles of most shoes is what keeps them lingering around the planet (for as long as a thousand years), so Simple Shoes came up with EcoPure, an additive in the  the midsoles and outsoles that is basically a bunch of microbes that devour the EVA and plastic soles. But, don’t worry your shoes won’t just disintegrate right off of your feet, you have to actually put them in the compost or a landfill to make the process work. But who knows what the back of your closet will look like in 20 years?

The line will be available in Spring 2010.
