The countdown to 2016 has begun, which means it’s time to start thinking about your goals for the year ahead. If improving your overall health and fitness is on your list of New Year’s resolutions, there’s one simple change you can make right now that will help set you up for success when January rolls around: drink more water!

It sounds simple enough, but how many of us actually drink as much as we should? Dietitians of Canada recommends a daily intake of 2.2 litres of water for women and 3 litres for men, although personal needs will vary based on age, activity level and even the weather. That may sound like a lot of H2O, but keep in mind that proper hydration is essential for good health — it helps your organs function properly, helps regulate body temperature, aids in digestion, and even impacts brain function.

If you’re still not sure how on earth you’ll be able to gulp down two to three litres of fluid a day, we’ve got you covered. Here are some easy (but effective!) tricks to help you drink more water.

Remember, forming a new habit takes time! But after a while, drinking enough water will become second nature, and your body will reap the benefits. Here’s to a happy, healthy 2016!
