Corn: The Incredible Husk

Farm-fresh corn is absolutely delicious, and we've found a bunch of ways to enjoy it.

During the long, lazy days of summer and the early, busy days of fall we can’t help but crave corn. We love it fresh off the cob, slathered in butter. We eat it in pancakes, use it as breading and add it to salads. In the days of the early settlers to North America corn was so valuable that it was used as money and traded for other products such as meat and furs.

COOL CORN FACTS

An ear or cob of corn is actually part of the flower and an individual kernel is a seed. On average, an ear of corn has 800 kernels in 16 rows. Corn will always have an even number of rows on each cob.

HOW TO ENJOY

1. Instead of boiling, try roasting or grilling corn.

2. Instead of butter, try other seasoning options like sea salt, vinaigrette and herbs, sour cream and chives, paprika, lime, parmesan, garlic seasoning or ailoi.

3. Instead of corn on the cob, use kernels to make corn cakes, soup, or even corn nuts. The kernels also make a great addition to chili, salads and wraps.
