Tips for a Perfect Date Night In Before the Holidays Hit

The holidays can be a crazy time of year that puts a stress on your relationship. Here are a few tips and tricks to find time to spend with your partner.

Everyone’s super busy schedules are filled to the brim with careers, kids, appointments, errands (and more!) and it can be hard to find time for that much needed date night with your partner. After a long day at work, or once the kids are in bed, take advantage of the few hours you finally have together, crack open a bottle of wine and simply have date night right there at home. Do it before the craziness of the holidays sets in or you’ll be waiting until January.

We approached Christine Martin—a married mother of three—and asked her to share her “tried and tested” tips to having the perfect date night in

TAKE CARE OF THE KIDS

First, obviously, you need to get the kids to bed. Have a little snack for yourself during dinner, make something simple for the kids and get them to bed early.

GET YOURSELF READY

In the same manner that you would if going out to a nice restaurant, take a bit of time to make yourself look good. Not that there is anything wrong with sweats and a tee, but for a long awaited date night, it’s nice to go the extra mile and change out of your “lounge” clothing.

SET UP A NICE SPACE

Whether it’s a formal setting at your kitchen table, an outdoor picnic on the patio, or dinner in bed…make your space a nice and romantic one.

PREP AND ENJOY A MEAL TOGETHER

Now comes the best part…eating and toasting to your love! This can look anyway you want. Whether you sit down to a steak dinner, make pizza’s or serve up a taco night…whatever it is, make sure you are preparing the meal together. This is a fun activity – especially with wine! Pair your meal with the perfect wine for the season – Inniskillin offers a Late Autumn Riesling for a sweet and refreshing toast to the evening, or a flavourful Pinot Noir for the red lover. You can also take this to the next level and create a wine tasting experience in your living room. Cheers!

HAVE A FUN ACTIVITY PLANNED

Pull out the board games or a deck of cards. What about playing charades? Maybe you just want to relax and watch a movie together. Or give each other massages! Anything goes…as long as you are doing something together.
