To say I was excited when Canadian Family Magazine asked me to guest blog is a bit of an understatement. In fact, I am fairly certain I let out a whoop and did a happy dance around my kitchen before I blacked out from the sheer glee of it all. I am thrilled to be sharing a few of my thoughts and ideas with you here this week.
I have a ton of things I want to write about but am not sure where to begin.
How about this: I couldn’t give up blogging. Not even for money. The compulsion to write has been a part of me for as long as I can remember.
When I started my blog A Peek Inside the Fishbowl ten years ago, I didn’t have a big plan, and I certainly had no idea where I was going with it. Blogging was a natural fit for me, especially given my background in journalism and web development.
What I was doing wasn’t commonly known as blogging. It was just a web page, my own a virtual scrapbook, one I carved out during the wee hours of the morning and the odd hours my daughter slept. It is what kept me sane during the most insane of times.
It was small. And then it grew. My blog has lead me in unexpected directions and brought some amazing people into my life.
So what’s my blog about? Well, it is a record of (almost) everything I’m doing and thinking about with no apparent rhyme or reason. No, that’s not exactly true. There are threads tying it all together. It comes down to this: I really enjoy my children and I like being a mom in the Nation’s Capital. It’s a tough slog on some days, this mom thing, but I truly believe that if you sow good seeds early on you’ll reap the rewards later. And that’s what I’m trying to do.
In the coming week I hope to share some of my favourite projects with you. There’ll be some outdoorsy stuff, some crafty stuff, a pinch of this and a dusting of that. Above all, there will be seeds.
I hope you stick around for the ride.
