Madeline Spohr was born on November 11th, 2007.
She should be celebrating her fourth birthday today. Instead, it’s the third birthday her parents Heather and Mike are spending without her. For the past two years, the Spohrs have encouraged family, friends and readers to remember Maddie and to donate to the charity they set up in her honour, Friends of Maddie, which provides support to families of critically ill babies. This year, they have decided to do something a little different.
Heather and Mike went into a recording studio and recorded a song called “You Are The One.” They have put the song up on iTunes and their hope is to sell enough copies of the song to help fund Friends of Maddie’s expansion in 2012, to supply grants and scholarships to NICU families in addition to the Family Support Packs that they currently send—free of charge—to level III NICUs across the US. Basically, the more songs they sell, the more NICU families they can help, as 100 percent of the proceeds from the sales of the song will go to Friends of Maddie.
The song is available for purchase for $1 through iTunes Canada. It is also available through other outlets. Click here for more information and to see where else you can purchase “You Are the One.” And click here to read more about Maddie’s story.
Not every child’s entry into this world is an easy one, but your support means that their family doesn’t have to go it alone.
