Actress Alicia Silverstone made waves when she released a video of herself pre-chewing her 11-month-old son’s food and feeding it to him mouth-to-mouth a couple of weeks ago. Some people were outraged, medical experts said it was not hygienic, some people defended her and some just thought it was gross.
Silverstone fired back at her critics over the weekend during a Q&A following a screening of her 1995 movie Clueless, and upcoming feature Vamps (both directed by Amy Heckerling). As reported by The Daily Mail, Silverstone said:
“People have been feeding their kids that way for thousands for years. It’s a weaning process. Honestly, when I posted the video I was not thinking, so maybe I was like Cher [Horowitz, her character in Clueless]! I think it’s adorable and it makes me laugh every time he does it. … He attacks my mouth and I think it’s adorable. He also knows how to use his hands and he also eats regular food so when babies are weaning, he still breastfeeds. Some people think that’s disgusting too which is insane.”
Silverstone went on to say that she’s “very glad” she posted the video, and reiterates that she wasn’t trying to cause any controversy nor suggest that every parent should feed their kids the way she does.
