If you ask many moms what they want for Mother’s Day, they’ll tell you that it doesn’t have to be as expensive as the Tiffany’s bangle they’ve been drooling over and it doesn’t have to be as self-indulgent as weekend away from the kids. What most moms want is something to remind them of why being a mom is so great. Take it from us, we’ve seen many expensive gifts become second fiddle to homemade scrapbooks.
So here are some gift ideas that require no money, and just a little bit of effort:
1. Create a digital slideshow of pics with mom and kid(s). It could have a theme-like, vacations or family time-or it could progress chronologically, and create lots of “ooing” and “awwing” at baby pics. Trust us, Jen Reynolds melted when she received this as a crafty Secret Santa gift from another staff member.
2. Go for a walk. Seriously, when was the last time you went for a walk with your mom? If you live in the same neighborhood, visit the spots that you both have special ties to–like the park you play(ed) at–and don’t be afraid to stop half way and sit and simply enjoy the company. If you live somewhere else, take her to your neighborhood and show her all of your favourite spots. This invites her into your world and helps share a part of your life that she was perhaps not included in before.
3. Create a Mother’s Day Vow. It is a wonder why our romantic mates are the only people in our lives we feel compelled to pledge our love and respect to. Let this Mother’s Day be your chance to tell your mom all that she means to you and what you promise to do in the future to secure your relationship remains close. Recite it if you feel comfortable or make it into a cute scroll or framed noted if you’re not down with the mushy stuff.
