BLT Burger

Enjoy all the flavours of your favourite sandwich in a burger. The bacon and pork combo is a real winner.

  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tbsp grainy Dijon mustard
  • 3 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1/4 cup quick oats
  • 1-1/4 lb lean ground pork
  • 4 slices bacon, finely chopped
  • 6 buns, split and toasted
  • 6 slices cooked bacon, halved
  • 6 tsp mayonnaise, divided
  • 6 slices tomato
  • Lettuce
  1. In large bowl, combine green onions, Dijon mustard, 3 tablespoons mayonnaise and garlic; mix in oats, ground pork and chopped bacon. Shape mixture into 6 patties. Cover and chill 30 minutes or until ready to grill.

  2. Preheat grill to medium-high heat (375–450ºF).

  3. Place patties on greased barbecue and reduce to medium heat (325–375ºF); close lid and grill for 6 minutes. Open lid, flip patties, close lid and grill another 6 minutes, or until instant-read thermometer inserted sideways into the centre of the burger reads 160ºF.

  4. Place each patty in a split bun, top with 2 half slices of bacon and garnish with 1 teaspoon mayonnaise, a slice of tomato and a piece of lettuce.

97 calories, 33 g fat, 49 mg calcium, 717 mg sodium, 43 g carbohydrates, 3 g fibre, 27 g protein. Excellent source of vitamins B6, B12 and K, thiamine, niacin, iron and selenium; source of fibre, vitamins C and D, omega-3 and omega-6.
