These are what we think of when we think of a traditional holiday dessert plate. Everything else just sort of fades into the background after the butter tarts come out.
  • 1 cup corn syrup
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs slightly beaten
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup nuts, chopped (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  1. Line 18 medium sized tart tins with pastry (from recipe or store-bought)

  2. Mix the corn syrup with the brown sugar in a saucepan; cook gently over direct heat for 5 minutes; cool slightly.

  3. Pour over the slightly beaten eggs, beating continuously; add the remaining ingredients.

  4. Fill the unbaked shells two-thirds full. Place in oven at 450 for 10 minutes.

  5. Reduce the heat to 350 F; continue cooking for 15 to 20 minutes or until set.
