Cheddar Herb Buttermilk Biscuits

Extras can be made into tasty ham sandwiches the next day.

Makes 12 biscuits
Prep Time
Prep time: 10 minutes, On the table: 30 minutes
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 cup (very) cold butter, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp fresh thyme leaves
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  1. Preheat oven to 425 deg F.

  2. In the bowl of a food processor, pulse together flour, baking powder, soda, salt and sugar. Add butter and cheese and pulse until it forms small pea-sized pieces. Add thyme and buttermilk and pulse until batter is just combined and forms a sticky ball.

  3. Drop a quarter cup of dough (per biscuit) onto greased baking sheet leaving about 1 1/2-inches between each biscuit.

  4. Bake 18-20 minutes or until biscuits are golden and an inserted skewer comes out with only a few clinging crumbs attached.

Nutrients Per Serving

(1 biscuit) 184 calories, 11 g fat, 92 mg calcium, 330 mg sodium, 16 g carbohydrates, 1 g fibre, 5 g protein. Good source of folate.
