South-of-the-Border Veggie Burger

No one will miss the beef in this juicy vegetarian burger.

  • 2 cans 19-oz black beans, rinsed and drained
  • ½ cup coarsely chopped red onion
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • ½ cup chunky salsa, medium heat
  • ½ cup corn-chip crumbs
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 4 pita pockets or buns
  1. Preheat barbecue to medium-high heat.

  2. In a bowl, mash beans with a fork or potato masher, leaving some beans intact.

  3. Mix in remaining ingredients, except oil, and shape mixture into 6 patties.

  4. Brush patties with oil and grill 4 minutes per side. Serve in pita pockets or buns dressed up with your favourite toppings.
