In a bowl, season chicken breasts with salt and pepper and toss with oil.
In a heavy 10-inch skillet over high heat, sear chicken until lightly browned, about 2 minutes per side.
In a bowl, combine applesauce, water, honey and salt. Add to skillet and bring to a boil.
Stir in red pepper, cover and turn down heat to simmer. Cook for approximately 15 minutes, turning chicken breasts over once. The sauce should be thick. If not, remove cooked chicken and continue cooking sauce over high heat until thickened. Stir in green onions and serve.
