The Most Flattering Essential Summer Shorts

Look courtesy of Club Monaco

Short trends come and go (just like our once-killer gams have), but a classic length and style of short can carry your summer wardrobe from year to year.

So what looks best? I prefer an in-between style: Not short shorts (phew!), but not Bermudas either (which can be equally unflattering on many women). Depending on your height, somewhere between a 3-to-5 inch inseam is probably most favourable. At that length it should fall past the largest section of your thigh, and will accentuate the narrowing part of your leg.

Try pairing shorts by day with a simple wedge. Still comfy enough to do your errands in, a slight heel will lengthen and tone more than flip flops. And don’t be afraid to wear your shorts out for a night on the town; paired with heels they can provide the sexiness of a skirt, without compromising comfort.

Here are some of our favourites styles this season:

Clean cut, with subtle military details
Comfy, casual with a mustard zing
Nautical, streamlined white
Tailored, with matching blazerDressed up Batik
