Food Inspired by the Green Isle: St. Patrick’s Day Celebration Treats

Photography from Meaghan Mountford at The Decorated Cookie

St. Patty’s Day is just around the corner (March 17th) and what better way to celebrate this much-loved Irish holiday then with delicious traditional food and adorable snacks inspired by the Green Isle.
The history of St. Patrick’s Day dates back over 1,500 years. It tells the story of a kidnapped English teen who was whisked away to Ireland. He escaped back to England years later, only to return to Ireland as a priest and later on, patron saint.

As an homage to Ireland, you and your family should try this traditional Irish dinner of Corned Beef with Potatoes and Cabbage plucked straight from our Canadian Family Recipe Database.

After you have devoured this savoury Irish meal, Meaghan Mountford was also inspired by Ireland to create her Luck o’ the Cookies blog. Made from sugar cookies, some sparkly sprinkles, fondant and a little imagination, she captures the feel of St. Patrick’s Day in these sweet treats. We featured Meaghan’s blog, The Decorated Cookie, about two weeks ago with her Cookies for Climate Change in honour of the World Wildlife Fund’s National Sweater Day to raise our collective environmental awareness.

So get your green gear ready to party like the Irish!
