Homemade Slushies

When you open up the Summer issue of Canadian Family you will see a shot of my growing-like-a-weed daughter Charlotte. To participate in said photo shoot, I promised her a slushie from the local gas station.

Well, she turned on her smile and we got the shot we needed. Then she wanted payment.

I buy a lot of slushies (okay, I like the cola ones) not only for my family but for the neighbourhood kids too when we go for a walk. It adds up.

So I’ve decided I have the means to make these myself. And here’s the recipe I’ll be using from momadvice.com (who got it from hillbillyhousewife.com).

World’s Greatest Homemade Slushies

2 cups ice water
1 packet fruit-flavored drink mix (use your favorite flavor)
2/3 cup sugar
1 full tray of ice cubes (about 4 cups)

Place all ingredients into a blender. With the lid on, process the mixture on high for a full minute, or until all ice chunks have been broken up. Serve immediately. The mixture will be thick and you may need to scoop it out with a spoon or measuring cup. Makes four 8 oz servings.
